Principal Playbook  /  For School Districts

Support a cohort
through their
first year.

Districts and divisions enrol a group of new principals together. Administrators see how the cohort is progressing. Participants keep a private place to ask the questions they would not raise in a division meeting.

Chapter OneWhy a cohort

A new principal costs a division far more than a program does.

The first year decides whether a new principal stays in the chair, and whether the building they were given moves forward or holds. Divisions already know this. What they usually lack is a structure that runs for the whole year rather than a two-day summer induction, and someone outside the reporting line that a new principal can be honest with.

Enrolling a cohort gives every new principal in the division the same structure, the same tools and the same vocabulary, at the same point in the year. It also gives the division a straightforward answer to what its first-year support actually is.

Chapter TwoHow a district account is organised

District

The organisation account. Holds its cohorts, its administrators and its reporting.

Cohort

A group moving through the program together, usually one intake year. A district can run more than one at a time.

Principals

Individual participants, each with their own dashboard, Field Manual, notes and coaching history.

What a district administrator sees, and what stays private

Aggregate progress is visible so the division can support its people. Individual reflections and coaching questions are not, unless a district is explicitly configured otherwise.

Visibility by role, as the platform is specified.
Information District administrator Participant
Participants enrolled in the cohort Visible Own record
Completion rates across the cohort Visible Not shown
Program progress by stage and quarter Visible Own progress
Coaching attendance Visible Own record
Aggregate assessment results Visible Own results
Reports and exports Visible Not shown
Individual coaching questions and answers Private Own history
Personal reflections and notes Private Own notes
Chapter ThreeWhat the reporting answers

Who is moving, who has stalled, and where.

The administrator view is deliberately more detailed than the participant view, because a division needs to intervene before a principal disappears rather than after.

Chapter FourBringing it to your division
Step 01

A conversation

How many new principals you are appointing, when they start, and what your division already provides.

Step 02

Cohort design

Intake dates, the coaching schedule, which sessions are in person, and who the district administrators on the account will be.

Step 03

Accounts and enrollment

The district account is created, participants are added to the cohort, and each one receives their own portal access.

Step 04

The season runs

Content is released stage by stage, coaching sessions are scheduled against the cohort, and reporting is available from the first week.

Colophon

Develop people. Build culture. Leave a legacy.

Principal Playbook runs as a full school year for individual principals and as a cohort for districts. To ask about the next intake, a district cohort, a keynote or a consulting engagement, start a conversation, or write directly to the address below.
